the machine of narratives

a great epic of cultural clash between native american and the white. another spielberg's masterpiece that depicts with allegedly historical accuracy one poignant part in the american history when the west turned into a battlefield for the lakotas, the pioneers, and the foreigners all looking for a place to live. another aspect i like in this movie shows how technological systems, namely telegraph and railroad, unprecedentedly changed american landscape and society. aired by TNT, this mini series is educationally entertaining, blending history, love story, heorism and action. as spielberg ambitiously said, he wanted to make a movie that will be useful to learn american history for the generation one hundred years later. despite his potentially orientalist representation, i think spielberg succeeded to produce a memorable picture with great sympathy on marginalized people.
