the machine of narratives

This collection of images began in early 2001, in frustration at the difficulty of finding good images of Indonesia for essays and assignments at university. Images such as symbols, heroes, older politicians, and historical figures were very difficult to find. This was not only a problem for me, but for most of my friends as well.
The collection took on a life of its own, with various people offering advice on content, till today what is available on this website is only a small fraction of a much larger collection. The majority of the images were collected while studying with ACICIS at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta during 2002.
As time passes, and as my rudimentary skills with image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop improves, I will be able to add more images to this online collection. These will be from my own photos, from the large number of images already collected in Indonesia, and also images submitted by other interested people.
It is my hope to build an ever-expanding online collection of low resolution images of Indonesia that is freely available to students and teachers around the world. It is also particularly satisfying to know that since this website was first launched on the 1st May 2003 over half the visitors have been from Indonesia.
